General inspection including a leak test

There are a few things to bear in mind before commissioning a separator system. You can find out exactly what’s involved here.

Legal guidelines & standards

Under current legislation and in accordance with EN 1825 / DIN 4040-100, the operator of a separator system is required to subject the system to a general inspection, including a leak test, prior to commissioning and at regular intervals of every five years. This test may only be carried out by a competent skilled person.

Regular maintenance intervals

The following requirements must be met by the examination date:

  • All components of the system must be fully installed so that the separator system is fully functional and ready for operation.
  • On the day of the inspection, the separator must be completely emptied and cleaned. A sufficient water supply for filling the system must be ensured (at least a C-hose).
  • The following documents must be provided: drainage plan, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, DIBT test report, drainage permit from the relevant authority, planning permission, log book
  • During the inspection of the separator system, the inflow of wastewater must be stopped.

Test in accordance with DIN 4040-100

The test is carried out in accordance with the guidelines of DIN 4040-100 and proceeds as follows:

Verification of the grease trap system’s design; inspection of the structural condition of the system; sealing of the grease trap outlet; sealing of the grease trap inlet (where possible); filling the grease trap system with water and raising the water level to 20 mm below the floor inlet or a maximum of 20 mm below the top edge of the grease trap; Saturation of the system components over a period of 1 hour; The system is tested for tightness in accordance with DIN 4040-100; Inspection of the log book; Inspection of the inlet pipe of the separator system as a ventilation pipe.

The results of the grease separator system inspection are recorded in an inspection report with photographic documentation. The grease separator system is dimensioned in accordance with EN 4040-100, and the results are appended to the inspection report together with printouts of the measured values.

Leaks detected during the general inspection

Should any leaks be detected during the inspection, a damage assessment will automatically be carried out in accordance with DIN 4040-100 to locate the damage to the system.
