What can be discharged via a lifting station?

Standards and regulations in accordance with DIN 1986-100 and DIN EN 12056-4

Types of wastewater

A lifting station can be used to discharge various types of wastewater:

  • Rainwater, which collects, for example, on roofs and other building surfaces
  • Wastewater comprising all wastewater generated
by a property:- Greywater: wastewater without
    sewage- Blackwater: wastewater with sewage

Building drainage in compliance with regulations

From the perspective of technical regulations, a distinction is made

  • inside and outside buildings
  • into public and non-public areas

DIN 1986-100 stipulates that drainage outlets above the backwater level must be drained by gravity and must not be connected to lifting stations. Only in cases where the gradient to the sewer is insufficient may the water be discharged via sewage lifting stations.

DIN EN 12056-4 stipulates that drainage points below the backwater level must be protected against backwater by automatically operated sewage lifting systems with a backwater loop. Under certain conditions, backwater valves may also be used in accordance with DIN EN 13564-1. In particular, for lifting stations, a dual-pump system must be installed in accordance with DIN EN 12050-1 or DIN EN 12050-2, depending on the application, if the flow of wastewater must not be interrupted. The second pump improves operational reliability.
