The design is essentially based on the principles set out in section 13 (Protection against backwater) of DIN 1986-100. A professional and effective design is carried out in the following steps: 

1. Determination of the backwater level in relation to the drainage points
2. Identification of the drainage points to be protected
3. Determination of the type of wastewater and volume
4. Determination of the installation situation (indoor or outdoor)
5. Determination of the protection strategy (individual or collective protection)
6. Determination of the drainage type (gravity or pressure drainage)
7. Determination of the type of use (continuous or batch operation)
8. Product selection (product type and model)
