Inspection and maintenance

by Pump Technology

inspection

The operator should check the operational readiness of sewage lifting stations once a month by observing at least two operating cycles.

maintenance

The system must be serviced regularly by a competent skilled person. The intervals must not exceed

  • three months for systems in commercial premises
  • every six months for systems in apartment blocks
  • once a year for systems in single-family homes

The following specific tasks must be carried out during maintenance:

  1. Checking the tightness of connection points by inspecting the area around the system and fittings
  2. Operate the valves, check for smooth movement and tightness, adjust and grease if necessary
  3. Open and perform cleaning on the backflow preventer; check the seat and ball/flap; carry out a functional test
  4. Cleaning the pumping device and the immediately adjacent pipework; checking the impeller and bearings
  5. Checking the oil level, topping up if necessary or changing the oil (if an oil chamber is present)
  6. Internal cleaning of the tank (if necessary or as per specific requirements)
  7. Visual inspection of the electrical components of the system
  8. Visual inspection of the condition of the collection tank
  9. Flush the system with water every two years

Once the maintenance work has been completed, the system must be put back into operation following a test run. A maintenance report must be drawn up, detailing all work carried out and the relevant data. If any defects are found that cannot be rectified, these must be reported immediately in writing to the system operator by the competent skilled person carrying out the maintenance, against receipt.
