Safer and more cost-effective operation
The owner and the authorised user (operator) are responsible for safe operation.
To ensure the safe and economical operation of a drainage system, the operator must be provided with the necessary operating and maintenance instructions.
In order to fulfil their obligations and duties of care, the operator must receive a briefing from the system manufacturer on the operation of the system and be made familiar with its mode of operation. In particular, attention must be drawn to systems where long-term functionality is only guaranteed if regular inspections or maintenance are carried out, such as sewage lifting stations, backwater valves, separators and sewage treatment plants. A commissioning and induction report should be drawn up for this purpose.
Check for proper functioning and absence of defects
In addition to being operated in accordance with their intended purpose, drainage systems must be inspected regularly to ensure they are functioning safely and are free from defects and, where necessary, maintained in a safe working condition through appropriate maintenance measures.
Compliance with the operating conditions on which the design and installation are based is a prerequisite for the trouble-free operation of the drainage system.
Maintenance, repairs and modifications to drainage systems must only be carried out by competent skilled persons.
