Correct installation
Once the correct backwater valve has been selected, it must be installed correctly. It is particularly important to note that the backwater valve must never be installed directly into the main sewer pipe. This is because, in this variant, drainage points located above the backwater level would also be drained via the valve. In the event of a backwater, the backwater valve closes, thereby preventing sewage from entering the building.
However, if the drainage points located above the backflow point are used during a backflow, the main drainage pipe fills up and this wastewater then overflows via the connections in the basement. In effect, you are flooding your own property. To prevent this from happening, only those drainage points that are actually at risk of backflow should be drained via a backwater valve.
