
Components of the general inspection
Before commissioning and thereafter at regular intervals of no more than five years, the separator system must be inspected by a competent skilled person to ensure it is in good working order and operating correctly (general inspection), following prior complete emptying and Cleaning.
At least the following points must be checked or recorded:
- Details of the location of the inspection, the plant operator (including inventory data), the client, the inspector and the competent authority
- Nominal size
- Protection against the escape of light liquids from the separator system or the shaft structures (overflow / warning system)
- Structural condition and tightness of the separator system
- Condition of the internal wall surfaces or internal coating, the fitted components and the electrical equipment, if present
- Calibration of the automatic closure device by determining the weight and volume of the floater
- Completeness and plausibility of the entries in the log book
- Evidence of the proper disposal of the contents of the separator system
