Which pipe fits which drain?
When planning drainage systems, it is important to check which pipes can be connected to the drains being used. Depending on the pipe material used, different external diameters correspond to a given nominal diameter. For example, a plastic pipe with a nominal diameter (DN) of 70 has an external diameter (OD) of 75 mm. A cast iron pipe in DN 70, on the other hand, has an external OD of 78 mm due to its thicker wall thickness. Find out here what dimensions different drains have and what options are available for the respective pipe connection.
Options for connecting pipes to KESSEL drains
Here you can find an overview of the nominal sizes (DN) and external diameters (OD) of KESSEL drains, and discover which pipe types and connection methods are suitable for each pipe connection.
Polymer drains
Pipe connections
Nominal size DN | Outer diameter OD (mm) |
| 50 | 50 |
| 70 | 75 |
| 100 | 110 |
| 125 | 125 |
| 150 | 160 |
- Connection to plastic pipes (e.g. HT, KG) with the same OD and pipe sockets
- Connection to cast iron pipes or similar using adapters
- Welding to PE pipes is only possible with System 400 yard drains
Stainless steel drains
Pipe connections
Nominal size DN | Outer diameter OD (mm) |
| 70 | 78 |
| 100 | 110 |
| 150 | 160 |
- Connection to cast iron pipes in accordance with DIN 19522
- Connection to stainless steel pipes with matching diameters and wall thicknesses
Ecoguss drains
Pipe connections
Nominal size DN | Outer diameter OD (mm) |
| 50 | 58 |
| 70 | 78 |
| 80 | 83 |
| 100 | 110 |
- Direct connection to cast iron and plastic pipes with the same OD
- Connection to pipes with different OD using adapters
